TIANJIN, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The 17-year-old Li Yuan scored a game-high 21 points to help Shandong beat Guangdong 80-66 for the women's U18 basketball title at 13th Chinese National Games here on Monday.

Shandong led the game from the beginning with the biggest margin of 20 points, while Guangdong never found its way to catch up.

The 2.01-meter and 103-kilogram center Li Yueru only registered15 points for Guangdong, her least in the six games, as she was restricted by Shandong center 2.04-meter Han Xu, and 2.02-meter Liu Yutong.

"Li Yueru is a national team member, she was very excellent, I know, so we employed the man-to-man defense, and our other players also did well in defense," said An Guangting, the head coach of Shandong.

Li Xin, once a famous basketball player in China who takes the helm of Guangdong team, said: "I'm proud of these girls although we didn't stand on the highest platform. They played hard and tried their best. We have neither enough talents on bench nor good perimeter players."

Sichuan beat Henan 76-73 for the bronze medal.
