  花馍又称面花,可以说是一种游走在指尖上的非遗技艺。每到腊月,高密市花馍手艺人总会用面花的形式,来迎接新春的脚步,他们以面为素材,以手为刀具,徒手捏花馍,传递新气象。

  Huamo, also known as mianhua, is considered as a kind of hand-made intangible cultural heritage. Craftsmen of huamo in Gaomi will make this kind of colored steamed buns every twelfth month of the lunar year to greet the new year. They use flour as the main ingredient and hands as cutting tools to make huamo with their bare hands.

  “这是我们今年创作的祈福作品,这款叫龙凤呈祥,这款以面塑为主的叫国泰民安,这款以大红色为主的是凤冠霞帔,这款是以食用为主的叫福禄。”在高密面花艺人张东芹的工作室,记者见到了她为新年创作的面艺作品,六层彩色花馍底部的六只红色锦鲤让人惊叹不已,每片鳞片的纹路都看得清楚逼真。张东芹告诉记者,花馍设计为六层代表步步高升,顶端盛开的牡丹寓意着高密人喜迎宾朋、共度佳节。

  “These are the new steamed buns we made this year. This one is called longfeng chengxiang. This dough modelling is called guotai min’an. This bright red one is called fengguan xiapei. This edible one is called fulu.”In the workshop of Zhang Dongqin, a craftsman of Gaomin mianhua, the reporter saw the new art works made of flour for the Spring Festival. The six red koi carps at the bottom of the six-layer colored steamed bun are amazing, and the lines of each scale are clear and realistic. Zhang Dongqin told the reporter that the bun was designed to have six layers, representing a promotion step by step, and the peony in full bloom at the top symbolizes Gaomi people’s hospitality and festive mood.

  张东芹告诉记者,今年的年俗系列面艺作品主要是以祈福为主要创作灵感,自新冠疫情爆发以来,全国上下拧成一股绳,共同抗疫,她希望通过作品展现出大家对新年的希望寄托,祝福大家平安健康,同时,今年又是生肖虎年,创作了一大批以虎为主题的面艺作品,祝大家虎年吉祥,虎虎生威。

  Zhang Dongqin told the reporter, the series of this year’s flour art works were made with blessing as the creative aspiration. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has been united as one in the fight against the pandemic. She wanted to show people’s hope for the new year through her works, wishing everyone peace and health. At the same time, as this year is the Year of the Tiger, she made a large number of tiger-themed dough sculptures to wish everyone a lucky Year of the Tiger.

  相较于花馍以前抗摔性较弱的特点,今年张东芹进行了配方改良,升级为防摔花馍。“今年针对花馍造型,我们做了整体提升,细节处理上更加细微、逼真、立体,面塑配方我们经过研究揣摩、升级配方,让作品更抗摔、防裂,保存时间大大延长,让面艺作品美观和实用价值相互融合。”张东芹说。

  This year, Zhang Dongqin has improved the formula to make huamo less resistant to being broken apart. “This year, we’ve done an overall improvement of the steamed bun modeling and paid more attention to details. We have studied and upgraded the formula, so that the works can be break-resistant, anti-cracking and preserved for a longer time, combining the art works’ aesthetic and practical values,” said Zhang Dongqin.

  临近春节,花馍销售也进入到了一年之中的旺季。张东芹告诉记者,“到了年底我们的销量激增,由于全手工制作,周期比较长,所以达到了供不应求,现在出售的产品以礼盒为主,客户还是喜欢订制年俗相关的主题作品,像年夜饭饭桌上经典的爆款聚宝盆、福袋、锦鲤等,寄托了大家对新年的美好愿望。”

  As the Spring Festival approaches, the sales of huamo have entered the peak season of the year. Zhang Dongqin told the reporter, "In the end of the year, there will be a boom in sales of huamo. As all of them are hand-made and the production cycle is long, so the steamed buns are frequently in short supply. The products on sale now are mainly gift boxes. Customers prefer to order Spring Festival related art works, such as classic steamed buns in shape of treasure basin, blessing bag and koi, which represent people’s best wishes for the new year.”

  “花馍是咱们高密的一张靓丽的名片,我们还计划在过年期间,邀请更多的中小学生来到我们展馆,近距离感受非遗的神奇,保护非遗从娃娃抓起,一起把高密花饽饽传承、创新、发扬,让更多人领略高密花饽饽的魅力。”张东芹对未来发展信心满满。

  “Huamo is a calling card of Gaomi. We plan to invite more primary and secondary school students to visit our exhibition hall to feel the magic of intangible cultural heritage. Protecting the intangible cultural heritage starts from children. Together, we will inherit, innovate and carry forward the making of huamo and to let more people feel the charm of huamo,” said Zhang Dongqin full of confidence about the future.
