It is learned that this marks the first trial cultivation of mini pumpkins in Yegangbu Village. Xu Qinqin, Secretary of the Village General Party Branch, told reporters that the village dared to boldly test this new crop variety primarily because it had signed a guaranteed minimum purchase contract with buyers in advance.
"This is our first year growing mini pumpkins. We chose this crop because we heard it delivers decent yields and lucrative returns, which can boost local villagers’ incomes. Each mu yields 3,000 to 4,000 jin, bringing in 6,000 to 9,000 yuan per mu depending on market prices. Since this is our debut planting season, we lack relevant experience. We signed a cooperation contract with a firm in Weifang, which supplies seedlings and provides technical guidance. We have planted 20 mu this year, and plan to expand the growing area to 200 mu next year. The profit potential is quite promising."
With firm sales orders secured, farmers face no worries over crop sales. This model of "enterprises supplying seedlings and technical guidance + guaranteed minimum purchase prices + household farming" has erased villagers’ misgivings about the new crop variety and given the village’s specialty planting industry solid reassurance. Buoyed by the successful trial run of mini pumpkins, Yegangbu Village plans to expand cultivation step by step based on this pilot plot. It aims to make contract farming a new driving force for energizing the village collective economy and lifting villagers’ earnings.
