Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival with a Joyous Arts Journey

  To promote traditional Chinese culture and offer an immersive experience of the Dragon Boat Festival for international students in Zibo, Zhangdian District launched the "Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival with a Joyous Arts Journey" event on the afternoon of May 27. The activity was part of the "Experience Zibo" cultural immersion program for international studeBringing together resident representatives, international students, and members of "dual-registration units," the event was filled with a vibrant festive atmosphere.

  The highlight came with the Peking Opera a cappella piecePoetry Gathering, where the performers' exquisite artistry drew thunderous applause. Following the show, a Peking Opera master invited international students onstage for an interactive session, teaching them classic opera gestures and vocal techniques.

  Meanwhile, the international students joined local residents in the joyful tradition of making zongzi (sticky rice dumplings). Under the guidance of enthusiastic community members, they carefully learned to wrap the delicacies using bamboo leaves, glutinous rice, and red strings. Though their techniques were initially unpolished, the room buzzed with laughter and high spirits."It's been such a fascinating Dragon Boat Festival experience," said international student Jiman. "I got to make zongzi, try Peking Opera singing, and learn about the festival's origins and cultural significance. The unique charm of Chinese traditions really came alive – celebrating together made it extra special."

  Additionally, the event featured calligraphy and painting workshops.A master calligrapher demonstrated traditional festival greetings like "Dragon Boat Blessings" and "Abundant Happiness" , while guiding international students through the art of Chinese brushwork, allowing them to experience the distinctive charm of ink painting.Following the activities,community staff and volunteers delivered freshly cooked zongzi and festive greetings to elderly residents living alone and families in need, spreading warmth and care throughout the neighborhood."This Dragon Boat Festival celebration was truly special,"shared Liu Yan, a local resident participating in the event."The performances were wonderful, the activities were diverse, and celebrating together with neighbors and international students brought so much joy.
