Shandong’s seawater rice sparkling at the Expo 2020 in Dubai

The China Pavilion of Expo 2020 in Dubai opened to the public on October 1, 2021 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, with the online China Pavilion launched simultaneously. Covering an area of 4,636 square meters, the China Pavilion is one of the largest at the expo. Featuring a red lantern-shaped design, the pavilion is called "The Light of China," symbolizing hope and a bright future.

As a local project of Shandong province, the Qingdao Saline-Alkali Tolerant Rice project, led by renowned Chinese agricultural scientist Yuan Longping, was also unveiled at the Expo 2020 in Dubai. The project is exhibited in the Innovation and Cooperation Exhibition Area on the third floor of China Pavilion and highlights the case of smart agriculture centering on seawater rice led by Yuan Longping through refraction screen, three-dimensional paper-carving art wall and other forms.

The Expo 2020 in Dubai, originally scheduled to run from Oct. 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021, was postponed to Oct. 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 due to COVID-19. Shandong Week of China Pavilion in the expo has been adjusted to March 22 to 24, 2022, which will be the final event of provincial, regional and municipal activities of the China Pavilion.
