Shenxian: Pioneer for countrys modern agriculture

Shenxian county in Liaocheng, Shandong province has seen steady progress in modern agriculture and is an important base for grain and vegetables with a suitable agricultural structure and distinctive industries.

The county established a national agricultural science and technology park in 2016 and a national demonstration zone for modern agriculture in 2022. It is listed among the first batch of strong modern agricultural counties in Shandong.

Today, vegetables from Shenxian have been delivered to hundreds of supermarkets and consumer markets for agricultural products in cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. More than 40,000 kilograms of vegetables are sold to Beijing per day and the qualified rate of product sampling inspection has remained at 100 percent.

Shenxian is the first in China to create a food quality and safety traceability system for agricultural products, with a real-name certificate for each product. Under the system, regulatory agencies can inspect two main indicators for agricultural products — the application of pesticides and fertilizers — and trace the origins of products from cooperatives to farmers.

Shenxian also launched a prescription mechanism in 2018, so that buyers can only purchase pesticides with a prescription in agricultural stores. Currently, the quality and safety monitoring pass rate of major agricultural products in Shenxian has remained above 99.5 percent.
