Eggshell Carving Skills at Nanxiaowang Village, Yangxin: Great Art on Small Eggshells

　　On July 11, 2024,an extraordinaryonline activity was successfully launched at Nanxiaowang Village, Shangdian Town, Yangxin County, which was organized by the Publicity Department of Yangxin County Party Committee to introduce eggshell carving skills. Ismail from Egypt and Yadoo from Yemen were invited to participate online to appreciate the charm of this unique folk art.

　　At the activity site, the staff introduced that in this land full of cultural heritage, Wang Ruwei is a highly respected inheritor of eggshell carving skills. And this marvelous eggshell carving skill has been successfully selected into the seventh batch of representative project list of county-level intangible cultural heritage, which indicates its preciousness and uniqueness.

　　Wang Ruwei, an outstanding figure with multiple roles, is not only the head of Ruwei Art Studio, but also the director of Wang Ruwei EggshellCarving Studio “Lizhihuakai”, the head of Yangxin Shared Sunshine Cultural and Creative Center, and a member of Jinan Disabled Persons Literature and Art Association.His love and persistence in eggshell carving make this ancient art shine brilliantly in modern society.

　　During the activity, Wang Ruwei introduced the eggshellcarving skills to everyonein person.He vividly described it as a folk handicraft that “dances”on eggshells. With the eggshell as paper and the knife as a pen, every time the knife rises and falls, it seems to be a well-arranged dance, full of rhythm and rhythmic aesthetics. The seemingly fragile and small eggshell, under his meticulous carving, can realize the transformation from decay to magic. With just an eggshell and a carving knife, he can create a variety of exquisite and unparalleled works that are pleasing to the eye and intoxicating.

　　After introducing the cultural connotation of the finished sculpture in detail, the staff showed several eggshellsculptures one by one through the lens.Some works depict delicate flowers, birds, insects and fish, which are lifelike, while others show magnificent landscapes with far-reaching artistic conception. Every work embodies Wang Ruwei’s painstaking efforts and wisdom. When he saw Five Cattle, Ismail couldn’t help but praise it repeatedly and exclaimed it was unbelievable.
