A delegation from Shandong University of Technology visited universities in Cuba and the United States

Recently, Li Yuxia, President of Shandong University of Technology, led a delegation of four people to visit universities in Cuba and the United States, including the University of Havana, the Central University of Las Villas in Cuba, Wayne State University, and the University of California, Davis in the United States. The delegation negotiated on relevant cooperation and exchanges and signed inter-university cooperation agreements.
At the University of Havana, Li Yuxia met with Daniel Alfonso Robaina, the Vice President, to discuss international research collaboration between the two universities in areas such as high-end laser manufacturing, smart grids, big data, and artificial intelligence. They explored potential collaborations on joint postdoctoral training, student exchange programs, faculty visits, and the submission of cooperative projects under government funding, reaching a preliminary agreement on cooperation. Li also negotiated specific cooperation details with Rafael Pomares Tabarez, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, and Reisa Socorro Lianes, Dean of the School of Computer Science. During her visit, she toured the Institute of Basic Sciences (ICB) and engaged in discussions with researchers in smart grids, big data, artificial intelligence, and other related fields.
At the Central University of Las Villas in Cuba, Li Yuxia communicated with Luis Oliveira, the President, regarding cooperation between the two universities on long- and short-term student exchange programs, energy and energy storage projects, and the application for establishing a Confucius Institute. Both parties discussed the specific requirements for applying for the Confucius Institute and signed a 《Letter of Intent for Cooperation on Establishing a Confucius Institute》Letter of Intent for Cooperation on Establishing a Confucius Institute.
At Wayne State University in the United States, the delegation discussed the "3+2" joint student training program and long- and short-term faculty exchange programs with Laurie Crabtree, Provost and Senior Vice President, and Dr. Xiu Huajing, Associate Vice President, and signed a Cooperation Agreement. They also held discussions with Ali, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Michael Erlich, Dean of the College of Business, on developing 4+1 undergraduate-master's integrated programs, joint graduate training, young faculty talent development, and research collaboration in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, and economic management-related disciplines, reaching a consensus on these matters.
At the University of California, Davis, the delegation met with Sara Olsen, Director of Global Partnerships, among others, to review the student exchange and research collaboration between the two universities since 2010. They discussed the development of joint training programs for master's and doctoral students lasting three months or more and talent development for young faculty. Both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a Cooperation Agreement. The delegation also engaged in discussions with Annelise Adams, Associate Vice Provost for International and Academic Affairs, on continuing education and training programs, reaching a preliminary intention for cooperation on student and faculty exchange programs.
During the visit, the delegation paid tribute to some teachers and alumni who were studying or working abroad and visited universities such as New York University, Columbia University, and the University at Albany, State University of New York. They communicated with university leaders, experts, scholars, administrators, teachers, and students in the United States, introduced the university's situation and its advantageous disciplines and majors, promoted the university's policies on talent recruitment, incentives, and support, and explored possibilities for cooperation in education and teaching, scientific research innovation, talent training, and faculty development.
