Since the beginning of summer, flocks of rare Pied Avocets have been spotted at Wulei Island Bay National Wetland Park in Nanhai District, Wendeng. These elegant birds are often seen resting in their characteristic "one-legged stance," with their long, upturned bills tucked beneath their wing feathers. At other times, they wade through shallow waters, rhythmically sweeping their distinctive upward-curving black bills from side to side as they forage, displaying the graceful poise that earns them the title of "supermodels of the avian world."
Recognizable by their striking black-and-white plumage and unique upturned bills, Pied Avocets are particularly sensitive to their habitat conditions, serving as reliable "ecological indicators." Their consistent presence in the area provides direct evidence of Nanhai District's excellent water quality, abundant food resources, and compliance with ecological safety standards, clearly demonstrating the continuous improvement of the local ecological environment.
