Walking into Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia, the early autumn campus presented a charming blend of golden ginkgo leaves and modern architecture. Gao Ziqian, a doctoral student from Zibo, Shandong Province, stood in front of the library, fluently discussing academic topics with several Russian classmates in Russian. Twelve years ago, he set foot on this land with a passion for the Russian language, and today, he has become both a witness and an active participant in Sino-Russian educational exchanges.

In 2019, Gao Ziqian and a Brazilian classmate represented Far Eastern Federal University at the World Youth Festival in Sochi, where they were received by Russian President Vladimir Putin. "We introduced our backgrounds, and Putin said in Chinese, encouraging us to study hard and emphasizing the importance of serving as a bridge for cultural exchange between China and Russia," Gao shared. During the event, he expressed his perspective as a Chinese student studying abroad: "Learning Russian allows me to read Pushkin’s works in the original, not just through translations." He firmly believes that "international students are not only scholars but also people-to-people diplomats." Now, he plans to pursue postdoctoral research focused on Sino-Russian trade, aiming to "leverage a decade of experience to build stronger cooperation between the two nations."
